A big thank you goes out to all of the people that showed up to the Healthy Melrose wellness fair on Saturday. Great turn out and had some great talks with some people that were interested in hearing about acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Yoga/Acupuncture Combo Class coming to Wakefield 04/17/16

Do you love yoga or acupuncture and want to see how they mix? Have you been doing one and wondering what the other has to offer? The word yoga means union. It’s the joining together of breath, body and mind – mind, body and spirit. This unique class will begin with centering followed by the exploration of the breath through multiple asanas (yoga poses) in an intelligent, gentle therapeutic flow. This program will stretch and soothe every space in the physical body. Class will conclude with an extended savasana (resting pose) and guided meditation. Afterwards a community style acupuncture treatment on your mat is included for each of the participants. Simple treatment options will include a choice of:

• Four Gates Treatment – Helps with calming and quieting the mind, strengthening and nourishing all the muscles and tendons.

• Head Over Heels – Can treat headache or plantar fasciitis.

• Back In Action Treatment – Targeting the spinal column and muscles of the back and neck.

We look forward to guiding you through the vast inner landscape of your being during this relaxing yet refreshing experience.

About the instructors:

Kate Curtis has been practicing yoga for ten years, and has been teaching in the Boston area for four years.  She strongly believes that everyone can find peace and health through natural means. Kate’s passion lies in guiding practitioners to feeling strength and comfort in their mind, body, and soul. Infused into her classes are encouragement, humor, loving kindness and an emphasis on the shared human experiences within the group.

Jay Guanci, Lic. Ac. has been practicing acupuncture in Reading since 2007. He holds a Master’s degree in acupuncture from the New England School of Acupuncture, the country’s oldest college of Oriental Medicine. Jay is trained in both Chinese and Japanese styles of acupuncture, as well as Dr. Tan’s balance style. He is experienced in treating all types of health issues. He’s been practicing yoga regularly for 4 years and is very intrigued by the similarities in these two disciplines.

Blood Orange Salad

As many of you know one of my favorite things to do when I’m not working at the acupuncture office is to find healthy recipes with new and delicious ingredients. I find myself sharing many of these recipes with you individually. Now, I’ll be sharing some of my more successful recipes with you all over the next few weeks in blog posts and in the business’s Facebook page. Enjoy!
Blood Orange Salad
– 1 box arugula or mâché (aka lamb’s leaf lettuce)
– 1 bunch frisée, chopped
– 3 blood oranges, peeled, pith removed and sliced into sections
– 1 large or 2 small fennel bulbs, thinly sliced (I use a mandolin)
– 1/2 cup chopped roasted pistachio nuts (Trader Joe’s has these)
– 2/3’s cup crumbled goat cheese
– 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill weed
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup pistachio oil
1/3 cup champagne vinegar
1 tbsp. orange juice
1 shallot finely chopped
1 tbsp. good Dijon mustard
2 tsp. nutritional yeast flakes
1 tsp. dried Herbes de Provence

Happy Holidays from Jay

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy holiday season and a very healthy 2016! Many people will set New Years resolutions for 2016 to get healthy. Think about acupuncture when you make your plan of action!
The office will be closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas but will be re-open Saturday December 26th if anyone wants to get in a post holiday detox or stress treatment. I’m also open the following week if you are taking time off between the holidays.
Gift certificates are available by contacting me directly through Wednesday 12/23. They are available in any amount or a special holiday deal for new patients – Initial Visit and 2 follow ups for $150.00.
Also, an update regarding insurance. Many of you who have Harvard Pilgrim may now be covered for acupuncture (with a copay and limit of 20 visits a year). Check with them to see if your policy covers it or email me and I can call on your behalf to check! I’m a participating provider and can bill them directly.
